Premier League - Spot the Whopper
For those of you devastated by Blackburn’s implosion last night, and the resultant impact on your YTM points, here’s a spot of midweek trivia to take your mind off things until the weekend.
Hidden among the following list of footballing facts and figures is one outright lie. Can you spot the whopper? All the rest are strange but true.
Football trivia
1 - While at Huddersfield Town, Steve Bruce wrote a series of thrilling novels featuring the adventures of rugged footballing hero ‘Steve Barnes’, the up-and-coming young manager of ‘Leddersford Town’.
2 - Liverpool’s Momo Sissoko once returned two days late from an international trip with Mali, reporting upon his return that he had played 48 minutes in a 1-0 friendly defeat to Kenya. Sadly for young Momo, manager Claudio Ranieri quickly discovered that no such match had actually taken place.
3 - Portsmouth and England defender Glen Johnson was once caught attempting to steal a toilet seat from B+Q, earning himself an £80 on-the-spot fine.
4 - Former QPR striker Kevin Gallen claims to be good friends with Morrissey.
5 - No active top-flight player has been sent off in more Premiership matches than Sunderland’s Andy Cole.
6 - John Fashanu now presents Nigeria’s version of ‘Deal or no Deal’.
7 - The female police officer directing traffic in the Gaviscon heartburn adverts was played by Scott Minto’s sister.
8 - Former England wicket-keeper Jack Russell is enjoying a new lease of life as a goalkeeping coach for Forest Green Rovers.
9 - Ex-Charlton man Clive Mendonca has gone on to become a nationally renowned sea-angler.
10 - Former Luton midfielder Lars Elstrup joined a religious cult known as “The Wild Goose Company”, eventually quitting the sect when he was denied visiting rights to his pet dachshund.
