Premier League Players - Value for Money Guide
As we draw ever nearer to the end of the season and the title race starts to heat up, both in the Premiership and in YTM, it is imperative that your remaining transfers are used to the greatest possible affect.
The following list details the players who have been the biggest bargains in YTM so far this season.
Check out who you can get into your team for next to nothing! Why not free up some cash for the likes of Ronaldo or Gerrard as we head into the final straight?
It’s a players total points divided by their value to get the points per million.
Bargains (Goalkeepers: £2-3m, Defenders: £2-3.5m, Midfielders: £2.5-4.5m, Strikers: £2.5-4m)
There have been a number of bargains in YTM this year. With the best buy easily being Fulham’s American import, Clint Dempsey. Dempsey has been in good form and has been playing up front. Fulham’s lack of depth in the striker department has resulted in Dempsey scoring far more goals than many would have anticipated.
Your top 10:
Rank - Player - Team - Position - Value - Total Points - Points Per Million
1 Clint Dempsey - Fulham - Midfielder - 2.5 - 90 - 36.00
2 Kenwyne Jones - Sunderland - Striker - 2.5 - 80 - 32.00
3 George McCartney - West Ham - Defender - 2 - 60 - 30.00
4 Martin Laursen - Aston Villa - Defender - 3.5 - 92 - 26.29
5 Roque Santa Cruz - Blackburn - Striker - 4 - 104 - 26.00
6 Paul Scharner - Wigan Athletic - Midfielder - 3 - 78 - 26.00
7 Benjani - Portsmouth (*) - Striker - 4 - 103 - 25.75
8 Stephen Hunt - Reading - Midfielder - 3.5 - 90 - 25.71
9 Stephen Ireland - Manchester City - Midfielder - 2.5 - 64 - 25.60
10 Seb Larsson - Birmingham City - Midfielder - 3 - 74 - 24.67
Middle of the Road (Goalkeepers: £3.5-4.5m, Defenders: £4-5.5m, Midfielders: £5-6.5m, Strikers: £5-6.5m)
Although reasonably priced for a defender, Everton’s Joleon Lescott will not break the bank considering what he could do for your team. With six goals and 12 KC’s Lescott is the ultimate defender. Priced at 5.5m, he is scoring at 21.27 points per million.
1 Joleon Lescott - Everton - Defender - 5.5 - 117 - 21.27
2 E Adebayor - Arsenal - Striker - 6.5 - 129 - 19.85
3 Ashley Young - Aston Villa - Striker - 5 - 91 - 18.20
4 David Bentley - Blackburn - Midfielder - 5.5 - 98 - 17.82
5 Tim Howard - Everton - Goalkeeper - 4.5 - 79 - 17.56
6 Stewart Downing - Middlesbrough - Midfielder - 5.5 - 96 - 17.45
7 Gabi Agbonlahor - Aston Villa - Striker - 5 - 86 - 17.20
8 Gareth Barry - Aston Villa - Midfielder - 5.5 - 89 - 16.18
9 John Carew - Aston Villa - Striker - 5 - 78 - 15.60
10 Phil Neville - Everton - Defender - 4.5 - 70 - 15.56
Expensive for a reason (Goalkeepers: £5-6.5m, Defenders: £6-7m, Midfielders: £7-9m, Strikers: £7-9m)
Cristiano Ronaldo may be one of the most expensive players in YTM, however this title is well deserved as his point scoring ability has been incredible yet again this season. Ronaldo is scoring at 20.2 points per million.
1 Cristiano Ronaldo - Manchester United - Midfielder - 9 - 182 - 20.22
2 Cesc Fabregas - Arsenal - Midfielder - 7 - 116 - 16.57
3 Edwin Van der Sar - Manchester United - Goalkeeper - 5 - 75 - 15.00
4 Fernando Torres - Liverpool - Striker - 7 - 104 - 14.86
5 Jose Reina - Liverpool - Goalkeeper - 5.5 - 81 - 14.73
6 Steven Gerrard - Liverpool - Midfielder - 8 - 117 - 14.63
7 Rio Ferdinand - Manchester United - Defender - 7 - 100 - 14.29
8 Robbie Keane - Spurs - Striker - 7 - 99 - 14.14
9 Carlos Tevez - Manchester United - Striker - 7.5 - 104 - 13.87
10 Nemanja Vidic - Manchester United - Defender - 6.5 - 86 - 13.23
Look out for Liverpool who have got a double header this week, as well as Manchester United and Bolton, who will not have a game on the weekend starting 08/03/2008.
Many thanks to my colleague Chris who put these lists together.
Cheers,
Tom
