Premier League Gossip 29th May 2008

It seems that the main transfer story doing the rounds online today involves Barcelona youngster Giovanni dos Santos, and a proposed £15million move to Tottenham.

Tottenham fans can see what they would be getting by checking out the video below. I make no apologies for the background music, as it reminds me of my youth!

If dos Santos moved to the Premier League, he would be a potential risk for Fantasy Football Managers, due to his relative inexperience. His value would obviously reflect this, and so could prove to be a bargain if he adapts well.

Whether or not this rumour is true remains to be seen, and with Chelsea apparently increasing their interest in Dimitar Berbatov, dos Santos’ arrival could be the transfer that the Spurs board use to soften a much bigger blow…

Another Chelsea rumour doing the rounds on the World Wide Rumour Web involves an ex-Tottenham coach’s desperate attempts to keep hold of his star player. The coach, Martin Jol. The player, Rafael Van der Vaart.

Football Corner blog covers this story, claiming the Blues will have to pay £15m+ to secure Van der Vaart’s services. If he can score goals like the one below, it could be good business!

However, much like dos Santos’ move, Van der Vaart’s arrival could well be caused by another’s departure, mainly that of ‘Fat’ Frank Lampard… Would the Chelsea faithful be willing to see such a sacrifice?

I for one hope this rumour is true, and Van der Vaart does indeed move in to replace Lamps. My theory behind this being that if Lampard moves abroad, I may in fact start to like him! If the Dutchman comes in to replace Lampard (valued at £9m last season), he will no doubt be a fairly expensive risk, much like Michael Ballack was in 2006-07. Van der Vaart’s youth will be his saving grace, and he may well be a player to bring into your fantasy teams during the latter stages of the season.

That’s all for now, but keep checking back for more rumours and videos.

  1. David Johnson Says:

In years gone by I have hung on every transfer rumour in the Premier League and in particular Tottenham. I would speak at length to friends and colleagues about the possibilities and how great it would be to have all these players.

Let’s be honest if Spurs had signed every player we’d been linked with we would be the greatest team the world has seen.

So this year (maybe I’m getting old) I’m going reserve judgement until Kaka, Christiano Ronaldo and Dean Windass are holding the Spurs shirt above their heads.

But for old times sake….. PLEASE KEEP BERBA AND SIGN DOS SANTOS because next year is going to be “our year”..!!
