Gomes is a tall 27-year-old Brazilian who can make some superb saves, but is also prone to madcap decisions at key moments in games. Think Fabien Barthez, and you are close to the mark! He will no doubt have caught Juande Ramos’ eye during the tie between PSV and Spurs in this season’s UEFA Cup. Check out the penaly shootout video below, especially when Gomes makes a impressive save from Jermaine Jenas:
My main thought on this is why would Spurs replace a slightly calamitous ‘keeper in Paul Robinson, with an equally left-field stopper?!
If he does make it to the Premier League, his Fantasy Football valuation would be a generous one, most notably due to the uncertainty of the Spurs defence in front of him. If Spurs keep all their British back four fit for the majority of the season, they could re-emerge as a top six outfit, with Gomes a YTM 08/09 bargain!
