Premier League Gossip 17th June 2008

Another day, another plethora of transfer rumours circulating in the day’s newsprint. The two that have caught our eye at YTM HQ involve two players currently playing at the European Championships…

Arsenal are apparently interested in a cut-price deal to bring Spain defender Raul Albiol to the Emirates Stadium.

Valencia are struggling financially, and are looking to offload their main assets including David Villa, David Silva, and Albiol. They value the defender at £10m, but would probably accept a lower offer due to their apparent dire straights. Arsene Wenger will apparently only do business at £5m, and whether the big-wigs at the Mestalla will go that low remains to be seen.

If Albiol does make the switch to the Premier League, he could play in the centre of either defence or midfield for the Gunners. Such a player could be of some value in YTM, as the potential to go forward could mean big points for goal-scoring defenders.

The other story making us excited in the office (easy…) is the possible transfer of Ivan Klasnic to Wigan on a free transfer.

Klasnic scored the winner for Croatia last night against Poland, and has done well to battle back from a Kindey transplant 18 months ago.

I think this could be a minor coup for Steve Bruce at the JJB. He is a known goalscorer, and as long as he passes the medical, could be a great partner for big Emile up front for the Latics. Would also be sure to be a bargain in the YTM playerlist, due to the club he joins, and his lack of experience of the Premier League.
