Premier League Gossip 3rd July 2008
Today’s Daily Mirror is running with an exclusive that one of EURO 2008’s top performers is on his way to England for talks on a big-money move…
Andrei Arshavin was in devastating form (apart from in the semi-final…) for Russia during the European Championships, and his skilful led them to the semi-finals where they eventually succumbed to Spain, the tournament winners. Now it seems Roman Abramovich has decided to make him part of Phil Scolari’s Chelsea team next season.

I was surprised to find out that Arshavin was 27 years old, and thought he was a lot younger. He has been making plenty of money in Russia for UEFA Cup winners Zenit, but an even bigger-money move to Stamford Bridge could be too tempting. If you are in any doubt of Arshavin’s ability, check out the YouTube compilation below… Sorry about the tragically awful music!
If he does complete a £12m move, then that may spell the end for Frank Lampard at Chelsea, especially with the arrival on Deco earlier in the week. In Fantasy Football terms, Arshavin may be priced fairly high, especially if he is classed as a striker, and Didier Drogba leaves to pastures new…
Let us know what you think of Arshavin, and whether he could be a success at Chelski.
