Joey Barton: Can he be a good Fantasy Football player?
Today Joey Barton left prison. Now will he be allowed to resume his career? King Kevin Keegan said on Sunday “Yes. Joey will be back. He’s had problems, but I knew about those problems at the time I took over. We didn’t know what would happen to him (in the court cases), but I told him that as long as from here to then, while he was with us he did things right and started to rebuild the confidence of everyone around him - which he had to do - I would stick by him”…
I believe that Joey has served his time and should be allowed to resume his career. However how many more chances does Joey have?
Right, now for the reason why I write this rubbish. How do I rate Joey as a Fantasy Player?
Now most people believe that Joey is a dirty player. However I have been looking at Joey’s stats. Did you know that in 23 games for Newcastle he was only booked 4 times. Now for a central midfield player who most believe to be “dirty” this is a good return.
Joey grew up an Everton fan and started his career at the club. However at the age of 14 he was released. After a couple of trials he finally got a youth contract at Manchester City.
In his final two seasons at City he scored 6 goals in each season, however my belief is that the City side Barton played for was very defensive. Joey will have a short pre-season, however I believe he will be ready for the start of the season.
If Joey can find the form that won him his one and only England cap he could be a great use of one transfer. Joey Barton should not start in your fantasy team, however you should watch out for his performances.
Don’t forget, if you take Man of the Match and Key Contribution points into account Joey could be a good points scorer this season.
Look for Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins to score the goals. However, look for Joey to provide these chances, remember he takes set-pieces.
I’m out!!!

Having gambled on Joey Barton’s obvious natural ability to convert into points in previous seasons, only for him to do something stupid and get dropped/suspended/incarcerated, I wouldn’t bank on it changing this season.
