Robinho signs for Man City and for YTM!
Well the transfer window closed on Monday night and all the action happened late on. For the last couple of weeks the battle for the little Brazilian Robinho has been between Chelsea and Real Madrid. First Chelsea we’re selling Robinho shirts (I’m not sure how true that story is) then Real said they wanted to keep the little wizard.
Then on Monday morning Manchester City announced that the Abu Dhabi United Group purchased the club from Thaksin Shinawatra. ADUG had less than 24 hours to try and bring in a big name or two to really show the fans that they mean business. That big name was Robinho.
Fantasy Managers will be licking their lips with excitement and the title of this post is not true. Robinho will be joining YTM shortly.
You should know by now that I like to review new player’s fantasy scoring potential. So today I pick Robinho. The talk of the office is about City’s new front 6, Jo, Martin Petrov, Shaun Wright-Philips, Elano, Michael Johnson and new boy Robinho. Now this looks like one of the strongest attacking line-ups in the league. However where is the defensive cover? This could mean City work from the old Real Madrid blue print, which Spurs tried last season of scoring more goals than your opponent. This didn’t work for Spurs or Madrid but from a fantasy point of view this could mean a lot of points.
GOALS
Robinho played 101 times for Madrid only scoring 25 goals. This is not a good return for a player who will not offer the team any defensive assistants. £32.5 million is a lot of money to spend on a player who only scores 25% of the time.Robinho will need to score once every 2 to 3 games and I believe he is good enough to do this.
KC
Will Robinho provide the fire power for Jo to score the goals to firer Man City into the Champions League? I’m not sure he will do this. I’ve seen a little of Robinho and he likes to hold on to the ball will he or can he play for the team. Robinho will pick up points for playing in every game and he’s not really going to be booked and sent off. My big question of him would be how he will deal with being the main man? At Madrid he played second fiddle to Raul and others.
I would say if your team has had a good start hold on to your transfers however if you have had a slow start review your strikers and maybe look at Robinho.
I think he will start slow and I don’t see him breaking the 100 point barrier this season.
Robinho is a 7/10 rating in my view. As always only time will tell if I’m right or wrong.
